Why 小猪视频? 鈥淚 first connected with 小猪视频 through the Honors College study abroad programs. Those trips showed me what a supportive and inspiring community it is."

小猪视频 is just down the street from Middlesex Community College. But when Jesse Friedman transferred, she took a detour through Northern Ireland and Spain.

While pursuing an associate degree in psychology from Middlesex, Friedman took advantage of a study abroad partnership with 小猪视频. In the summer of 2024, she earned a scholarship from Middlesex to join UML鈥檚 three-credit Honors College seminar 鈥淪tories of the Irish Island,鈥 based at Queen鈥檚 University Belfast.

It was the first time traveling outside the United States for Friedman, who was the only Middlesex student in the group.

鈥淚 was definitely nervous, but everyone was so open and friendly, and we all bonded really quickly,鈥 says Friedman, who enjoyed meeting with locals and exploring the coast of Northern Ireland, including the Giant鈥檚 Causeway.

鈥淚 had such a great experience,鈥 she says. 鈥淭hat was probably the main thing that inspired me to apply to 小猪视频.鈥

Before she transferred, though, Friedman joined another Honors College study abroad program in the summer of 2025, this time in San Sebasti谩n, Spain. It was the last course she needed to complete her associate degree.

鈥淚t was a totally different experience 鈥 the language, the food, the culture 鈥 but just as eye-opening,鈥 she says. 鈥淚鈥檓 a big foodie, so trying all the amazing food there was a highlight.鈥

Now an Honors College student at 小猪视频, Friedman is pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree in psychology with a clinical psychology concentration.

鈥淚t鈥檚 been an adjustment moving to a bigger campus, but I鈥檝e had a really great experience so far,鈥 says Friedman, who commutes from her home in Andover.

Friedman originally studied human services at Middlesex before shifting to psychology.

鈥淚鈥檝e always wanted to work with people and help them maximize their potential and well-being,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 really enjoyed my psychology classes at Middlesex, so I decided to keep going with it.鈥

Her study abroad experiences helped her grow personally and academically.

鈥淭raveling abroad with 小猪视频 in a structured environment helped me build confidence and independence,鈥 she says. 鈥淚t also connected directly to my major, because I got to see how different cultures shape people鈥檚 experiences and mental health.鈥

Friedman is considering a master鈥檚 degree in social work and pursuing a career in counseling. For now, she鈥檚 focused on getting involved on campus and taking more Honors seminars 鈥 including one about travel.

鈥淚鈥檓 still transitioning into 小猪视频 and exploring the campus, but I鈥檓 really happy with my decision to come here,鈥 says Friedman, who has kept in touch with several of 小猪视频 students she met while abroad.

鈥淭hat definitely makes it feel a little less intimidating coming into a new school,鈥 she says.

Advice to transfer students:

Jesse Friedman.

鈥淐oming from Middlesex Community College to 小猪视频 is the easiest transition, especially if you can take part in one of the study abroad opportunities. It鈥檚 a great way to make connections, meet some of the professors and students and talk to them about their experience at UML, which really helped me out.鈥
