The Proposal Resubmission Program supports research projects that were previously submitted for, but did not receive, external funding, and whose competitiveness on resubmission would increase with the acquisition of additional data, proof of concept, or additional proposal support (graphic design, research development support, etc.).鈥疪eviews must indicate that the project is sound and innovative. The proposal must be a 鈥渘ear miss鈥 - scored well and close to funding per the agency鈥檚 current funding levels.鈥疨roposals that were returned without review are not eligible for this mechanism鈥攑lease refer to our other internal funding programs for potential support. Awardees are required to meet regularly with a member of the research development team during the proposal revision and resubmission process.聽
Examples of appropriate use of funds include but are not limited to:聽
- UML statisticians, evaluators, and collaborators聽
- External consultant fees related to proposal development, such as a proposal graphic designer or an external reviewer聽
- Collection and/or analysis of preliminary data, including materials, supplies, and/or hourly wages for a student worker聽
Other budget lines may be proposed as long as they are allowable and demonstrate the need for the activity to support the proposal resubmission. Students can be supported, but the research project must advance the work of the applicant. Priority will be given to applicants with little to no remaining start-up funds/Research Investment Funds (RIF).聽
Anticipated Funding Amount聽
The Office of Research Development intends to fund up to 7 awards at up to $1,000 per project.
Application Timeline聽
Applications will be accepted through the on a rolling basis starting September 2025 until funds are exhausted. Allow at least three weeks to be notified of a decision. Funded projects will commence within 1-2 months of a submitted application.
Eligibility
- All full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty, clinical faculty, and research scientists聽

- Lecturers, visiting faculty, postdocs, and emeritus faculty are not eligible聽
- Holding another award from ORD does not make you ineligible for this program聽
- Previous Proposal Resubmission Program awardees are ineligible to receive an additional Proposal Resubmission Program award unless they have met all reporting requirements of the prior award.聽
- Applications for a second Proposal Resubmission Program award for the same project or research will not be accepted.聽

- Funds are awarded for a one-year period.聽聽
- No extensions will be granted on Proposal Resubmission Program awards.聽
- Proposals must have a research or evaluation component and must have been submitted to an external (non-UML) funding agency.聽
- Funds will not be granted for similar projects currently supported by other internal or external funding mechanisms at the campus or university level.聽
- If awarded, no funds will be transferred without applicable IRB, IACUC, IBC or Research Security/Export Control approvals.聽
- Funds must not be used for:聽
- Summer salary or other additional compensation for faculty聽
- Research Assistants/tuition waivers (funds may support student hourly wages)聽
- Course releases聽
- Off campus collaborators聽
Application Requirements
Responses must be completed within the form fields in the . Include:

Program expectations聽
- Once awarded, the PI is required to meet with an ORD staff member to discuss the resubmission plan, expectations, strategy, and timeline.聽聽
- PIs will be expected to meet at least bi-weekly with an ORD staff member and the proposal team (as relevant) leading up to proposal submission聽
- Awardees are required to submit a final report outlining activities and outcomes. Instructions for the report will be provided near the end of the award period.聽
- Unused funds will be returned to ORD聽
